The Meaning of Imbolg

Imbolg is an absolutely wondrous time of year! The Sun God was reborn at Yule and with him, hope and joy. His birth has rejuvenated the world in a way that no other event could. The growing light and returning warmth is a signal to all of nature that it's nearly time to reawaken.

Oh, it's still cold and there may be snow on the ground but if you stand still and listen closely, you can hear the Earth coming to life. The ground will soon thaw and the crocus will soon be blooming. The animals and birds will become more active and babies will begin to be born. Nature always recognizes the birth of the Sun God as a signal that it should ready itself to come out of hibernation.

We should also recognize His rebirth as a signal... a signal that we should share our own reborn joy and hope with those around us. The sunlight begins to grow stronger every day and we should do our part to help other kinds of light grow in strength and touch everyone.
What kinds of light? Well... the light of Kindness, the light of Love, the light of Joy, the light of Common Courtesy, the light of Hope. There are myriad ways for each of us to spread the light of the Sun God's rebirth and the message He brings to us. We have only to look into our hearts to find it; and we have only to open our hearts and hold out our hands to our fellow man to share it.

It is my dearest hope that the reborn light will illuminate the areas of all our lives where negativity dwells. And that the light will burn away all chaos and negativity so that love, joy, hope and happiness may take its place.
